# Collections & Rankings

> Organize your personal strain collection with status tracking, and rank your favorites using an ELO-based comparison system.

## Overview

High IQ's Collection system lets you organize every strain you encounter into meaningful categories, while the Rankings feature uses a competitive ELO-based comparison system to determine your personal all-time favorite strains. Together, they help you build a curated cannabis library and definitively answer the question: "What is my number one strain?"

## Collection Management

Your collection is a unified view of every strain you have interacted with, organized by status. Each strain can hold one or more statuses simultaneously.

### Collection Statuses

| Status       | Meaning                        | Icon                 |
| ------------ | ------------------------------ | -------------------- |
| **Owned** | Currently in your stash | Active inventory |
| **Tasted** | Tried but do not currently own | Experience logged |
| **Wanted** | On your wishlist to try | Future purchase |
| **Disliked** | Tried and did not enjoy | With optional reason |

<Note>
  A strain can have multiple statuses. For example, a strain you currently own and have previously tasted would show both "Owned" and "Tasted" badges.
</Note>

### Collection Tabs

The Collection screen uses a segmented tab bar with 6 filters:

| Tab         | Shows                                                        |
| ----------- | ------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **All** | Every strain in your collection regardless of status |
| **Favs** | Strains you have favorited (separate from collection status) |
| **Owned** | Strains currently in your stash |
| **Tasted** | Strains you have experienced |
| **Wish** | Your wishlist of strains to try |
| **Dislike** | Strains you want to avoid |

## Strain Rankings

The Rankings feature uses an **ELO rating system** (the same algorithm used in chess) to create your definitive personal strain rankings. Instead of rating strains on a scale, you compare them head-to-head -- which naturally produces a more honest and consistent ranking.

### How ELO Ranking Works

<Steps>
  <Step title="Build Your Collection">
    You need at least **3 experienced strains** (owned or tasted) in your collection to start ranking.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Start a Ranking Session">
    Tap "Start Ranking" to begin a series of A/B comparisons. Each round presents two strains side by side.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose Your Preference">
    For each pair, pick the strain you prefer, declare a tie, or skip. Each choice updates both strains' ELO scores.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Watch Rankings Emerge">
    After several comparisons, a natural ranking order emerges. Your #1 strain rises to the top, and less-preferred strains settle lower.
  </Step>
</Steps>

### ELO Score Details

| Metric                   | Description                                                                                                                     |
| ------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **ELO Rating** | Starts at 1200 for every strain. Wins increase it, losses decrease it. The magnitude of change depends on the expected outcome. |
| **Rank** | Your calculated position (1 = best). Based on ELO score among all your experienced strains. |
| **Comparisons** | Total number of head-to-head matchups for this strain. |
| **Wins / Losses / Ties** | Breakdown of comparison results.                                                                                                |

### Ranking Sessions

Comparisons are grouped into **ranking sessions** to prevent fatigue. Each session tracks:

* When it started and ended
* How many comparisons you completed
* How many you skipped

<Tip>
  You do not need to compare every possible pair. The ELO algorithm converges quickly -- after about 3-5 comparisons per strain, the rankings become stable and meaningful.
</Tip>

### Viewing Your Rankings

Your current rankings are visible in multiple places:

* **Collection screen** -- Sort by "Ranking" to see strains ordered by ELO position
* **My Rankings screen** -- A dedicated view of your ranked strains with ELO scores
* **Home Dashboard** -- Rankings Preview section shows your top 5
* **Stats Dashboard** -- My Strains tab includes ranking data

## Favorites vs. Collection

High IQ has both a **Favorites** list and a **Collection** system. Here is how they differ:

| Feature      | Favorites                  | Collection                      |
| ------------ | -------------------------- | ------------------------------- |
| **Purpose** | Quick bookmarking | Full tracking with statuses |
| **Statuses** | Favorited or not | Owned, Tasted, Wanted, Disliked |
| **Ranking**  | No                         | Yes (ELO comparisons)           |
| **Notes**    | Yes                        | Yes                             |
| **Photos**   | No                         | Yes (photo uploads)             |
| **History**  | Favorite/unfavorite events | Full event audit trail          |

<Tip>
  **Favorites are great for quick bookmarks** -- strains you want to remember or revisit. **Collection statuses** are for tracking your full cannabis journey with deeper detail.
</Tip>

<Tip>
  The **Dislike** status is useful for avoiding repeat purchases. When you mark a strain as disliked with a reason (e.g., "gave me anxiety"), you will see a warning if it appears in recommendations.
