# Your First Session

> A guided walkthrough of the first things to do after creating your High IQ account — add a strain, explore, and scan a label.

## Overview

You have created your account and the app is open. Now what? This guide walks you through the three best things to do first so you can start getting value from High IQ right away: add a strain to your stash, explore the strain database, and try the AI label scanner.

## Step 1: Add Your First Strain

The fastest way to make High IQ useful is to add a strain you are currently using or recently purchased.

    Tap the **Stash** tab in the bottom navigation bar. If this is your first time, the stash will be empty with a prompt to add your first item.

  <Step title="Tap the Add Button">
    Tap the **+** button (or the "Add Strain" prompt). This opens the strain search modal.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Search for Your Strain">
    Type the name of a strain you have — for example, "Blue Dream" or "OG Kush". Results appear as you type, pulling from the High IQ strain database of thousands of entries.

  <Step title="Select and Configure">
    Tap the strain to select it. You can then add details:

    * **Quantity** — How much you have (e.g., 3.5g, 1 oz)
    * **Purchase price** — What you paid
    * **Dispensary** — Where you bought it
    * **Rating** — Your initial impression (you can change this later)
    * **Notes** — Any personal observations

  <Step title="Save to Stash">
    Tap **Save** and the strain is added to your stash. You'll now see it on your Dashboard and in the Stash tab with all of its profile data — effects, terpenes, lineage, and more.

<Tip>
  Don't worry about filling in every field. The strain name is the only required piece. You can add price, quantity, and notes later.

## Step 2: Explore the Strain Database

With a strain in your stash, now explore what else is out there.

  <Step title="Open the Discover Tab">
    From the **Home** tab, tap **Discover** in the Quick Actions section, or scroll down to the Strain Discovery section. This opens the full strain database browser.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Browse by High Family">
    At the top of the Discover screen, you'll see filter options including the **High Families** — Relaxing, Uplifting, Energetic, Relieving, Balancing, and Entourage. Tap one to see strains classified in that family.

  <Step title="Open a Strain Profile">
    Tap any strain to open its full profile. Here you'll find:

    * **Effects breakdown** — What users report feeling
    * **Terpene chart** — Visual representation of the dominant terpene profile
    * **Cannabinoid data** — THC and CBD percentages
    * **Lineage** — Parent strains and genetic history
    * **Similar strains** — AI-recommended alternatives
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save a Favorite">
    Found something interesting? Tap the **heart icon** to save it as a favorite. Favorites are accessible from your Stash tab for quick reference later.

  <Step title="Try the Search">
    Use the search bar to find specific strains by name. Search is fast and matches partial names — typing "girl" will surface "Girl Scout Cookies", "Gorilla Girl", and more.

  The strain database is constantly growing. New strains are added regularly through our automated research pipeline that pulls from multiple verified data sources.

## Step 3: Scan a Dispensary Label

If you have a cannabis product nearby with a label, try the scanner.

  <Step title="Open the Scanner Tab">
    Navigate to the **Label Scanner** from the **You** tab or via the Quick Actions on the Home screen. The first time you open it, you will be asked to grant camera permissions.

  <Step title="Allow Camera Access">
    Tap **Allow** when prompted. The scanner needs camera access to capture label images. You can manage this later in your device's Settings under High IQ.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Position the Label">
    Hold your phone over the product label so the text is clearly visible and well-lit. The scanner works best with:

    * Lab result stickers
    * Terpene profile labels
    * Product information panels with THC/CBD percentages

  <Step title="Capture and Analyze">
    Tap the capture button. High IQ's AI (powered by Gemini) analyzes the image and extracts:

    * Strain name
    * THC and CBD percentages
    * Individual terpene levels
    * Cultivator/brand name
    * High Family classification based on the terpene data
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review Results">
    The analysis results are displayed on screen. If the strain matches one in our database, you'll see a link to the full profile. You can save the scan data or add the strain directly to your stash.

<Tip>
  For the most complete analysis, try a **batch scan** — capture 2-4 different angles or labels from the same product. High IQ merges the data from all images for a more complete profile.

## What to Do Next

Now that you have a strain in your stash, have browsed the database, and tried the scanner, here are some next steps:
