Status: Planned
Phase: Year 2 Predictive Intelligence | Tier: Pro
Overview
Cannabis affects far more than just how you feel in the moment. It changes your sleep architecture, your heart rate variability, your next-day recovery, your stress resilience, and your overall readiness. But today, these connections are invisible. You might suspect that your indica before bed is hurting your deep sleep, but you have no way to confirm it. You might wonder whether that sativa gave you anxiety or whether it was just a stressful day. Without data, cannabis remains guesswork. Health Sync changes this by connecting High IQ to the health data you are already collecting. By correlating your cannabis consumption patterns with biometric data from Oura Ring, Apple Health, Eight Sleep, and Google Fit, High IQ can surface real patterns, make evidence-based predictions, and help you optimize your relationship with cannabis based on objective health outcomes — not just subjective feelings. This is the feature that transforms High IQ from a cannabis tracking app into a personal cannabis optimization system. It is the vision described in the product roadmap as “Year 2 — Predictive Intelligence,” and it is what makes cannabis health intelligence a genuine product category. What It Does
- Wearable integration — Connect Oura Ring, Apple Health, Eight Sleep, and Google Fit with one-tap authorization
- Automatic health data collection — Background sync of sleep stages, HRV, resting heart rate, readiness scores, activity levels, and recovery metrics
- Consumption-health correlation — Overlay cannabis usage timing and strain data with health metrics to identify patterns
- Sleep impact analysis — See how different strains, terpene profiles, and consumption times affect your REM, deep sleep, and total sleep quality
- HRV tracking — Monitor how cannabis consumption affects your heart rate variability, a key indicator of stress and recovery
- Next-day readiness — Track how different strains and dosages impact your next-morning readiness and energy levels
- Terpene-health insights — Discover which terpene profiles correlate with better sleep, lower stress, or improved recovery for your body specifically
- Personalized warnings — “Your sleep quality drops 23% when you consume limonene-dominant strains after 10pm”
- Trend dashboards — Weekly and monthly views showing how your cannabis-health relationship is evolving over time
- Predictive guidance — “Based on your patterns, a myrcene-dominant strain consumed before 8pm would optimize your sleep tonight”
User Value
How It Works
Connect a Health Source
Open Settings and tap “Health Integrations.” Select your wearable or health platform and authorize data access. High IQ requests only the specific data types it needs (sleep, HRV, activity, readiness).
Background Data Collection
Health data syncs automatically in the background. No manual action needed. Sleep data appears the morning after. HRV and readiness data arrives as your wearable processes it.
Correlation Building
As you log cannabis sessions (via stash usage, session journal, or order imports), High IQ overlays your consumption data with your health data on a shared timeline.
Pattern Detection
After 2-4 weeks of combined data, the correlation engine begins identifying statistically significant patterns between your cannabis usage and health outcomes.
Technical Approach
Integration Architecture
| Platform | Data Source | Key Metrics | Integration Method |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apple Health | HealthKit | Sleep stages, HRV, resting HR, activity, respiratory rate | Native HealthKit API (iOS) |
| Oura Ring | Oura Cloud API | Sleep score, HRV, readiness, deep/REM/light sleep, temperature | OAuth2 REST API |
| Eight Sleep | Eight Sleep API | Sleep quality, bed temperature, time in bed, disturbances | OAuth2 REST API |
| Google Fit | Google Fit API | Sleep, activity, heart rate, stress | OAuth2 REST API (future Android) |
Data Pipeline
- Collection layer — Background sync fetches new health data every 4-6 hours. Data is stored in Convex for real-time sync across devices.
- Normalization layer — Different platforms report sleep stages, HRV, and activity differently. A normalization layer maps all sources to a common schema so correlations work across wearables.
- Correlation engine — Time-series analysis comparing cannabis events (strain, terpene profile, dosage, timing, method) with health outcomes (sleep quality, HRV delta, next-day readiness). Uses rolling windows and statistical significance testing to avoid spurious correlations.
- Insight generation — When a pattern reaches statistical significance (p < 0.05 with at least 7 data points), it is surfaced as an insight with a confidence indicator.
Privacy Architecture
Health data is among the most sensitive personal information. Our approach:- On-device processing preferred — Apple HealthKit data is processed on-device where possible. Only aggregated metrics (not raw biometric data) are synced to the cloud.
- Encrypted storage — All health data is encrypted at rest in Convex with user-specific keys.
- No sharing, ever — Health data is never shared with third parties, never used for advertising, and never included in aggregate analytics.
- Granular permissions — Users choose exactly which data types to share (sleep only, HRV only, everything).
- Easy deletion — One-tap deletion of all health data with immediate effect.
- HIPAA-informed — While High IQ is not a medical device and does not require HIPAA compliance, our data handling practices are designed to meet HIPAA-level standards as a trust signal.

Open Questions
- Which integration first? Oura Ring has the richest data (sleep stages, HRV, readiness, temperature) but a smaller user base. Apple Health has the largest reach but less granular data. Starting with Apple Health maximizes user coverage; starting with Oura maximizes insight depth.
- Minimum data threshold — How many days of combined data are needed before showing correlations? Too few and insights are unreliable. Too many and users lose patience. Initial thinking: 14 days minimum, with a progress indicator showing “X more days until your first sleep insight.”
- Causation disclaimers — Correlation is not causation. How prominently do we disclaim this? Every insight should include “Based on your data, X correlates with Y” rather than “X causes Y.” Legal review needed.
- Background sync on iOS — Apple limits background execution. HealthKit provides a background delivery API, but Oura and Eight Sleep require periodic foreground fetches or push notifications. How do we keep data fresh without draining battery?
- Session journal dependency — Health correlations are much more valuable when we know exactly when cannabis was consumed, not just what was purchased. Should Health Sync launch before or after Session Journal? Before means coarser data (purchase date only). After means richer data but later launch.
