Why This Page Exists
Everything in the Script Room was written on judgment. This page is the researched version: what the platform actually rewards, what it actually penalizes, and what it will actually ban you for. Three findings changed the slate. They are at the top because they matter more than the rest.Finding 3 — quality is the whole ballgame for AI content. Low-quality AI loses roughly 30-45% of reach versus authentic equivalents. High-quality AI performs within a few percent of anything else. The character-consistency discipline in the Character Config is not perfectionism; it is the difference between competing normally and starting at a 40% deficit.
The Compliance Lane
This is the most important operational constraint in the library, so it is worth being precise rather than nervous. This table is the conservative reading of the written policy. Observed enforcement is looser — see the Landscape for what large accounts actually get away with. Where the two disagree, the written policy is the risk you carry and the observed behavior is the opportunity.
The reframe that makes comedy work here: the joke is never “getting high is fun.” The joke is “here is the absurd, specific, extremely relatable situation that surrounds being a cannabis consumer.”
That is a bigger comedic space, not a smaller one. Dispensary anxiety, budtender confidence, menu-reading, the friend who only talks about their tolerance, the person who bought by the highest number on the label — all fully permitted, all funnier than a smoking clip.
Researched cannabis-comedy accounts that grow successfully do exactly this: skits about dispensary visits and stoner archetypes, and personified cannabinoids as characters. The second one independently validates The Entourage as the highest-upside format in the library.
Hook & Retention Data
The Hook Type That Beats Everything
Outcome-led hooks outperform all other categories. Showing the result, the transformation, or the finished thing first — before any setup — averages the highest views per clip in the research. This is the biggest gap in our existing hook library. Almost every hook we wrote is a claim or a question. Very few open on the payoff.
The second gap: pattern interrupt — opening on something visually or audibly unexpected. For an animated character this is cheap and we use it almost nowhere.
Both are now hook families in the Hook Library —
OL and PI.
Comedy Structure
The researched formula for short-form comedy that travels:1
Premise, stated immediately
The comic idea is established in the opening beat, not built toward. No runway.
2
Escalation
Each beat is more extreme than the last. The escalating punchline — where the bit keeps tagging on further, more absurd additions — is the core viral mechanic.
3
Specificity
A specific complaint beats a general one every time. “The budtender who says ‘this one’s fire’” beats “budtenders give bad advice.”
4
Payoff that reframes
The ending recontextualizes the premise rather than just stopping.
The South Park Structure
The reference is apt and worth naming precisely, because South Park has a repeatable formula:- A mundane, recognizable setup
- One character takes an absurd but internally consistent position
- Escalation to a societal-scale absurdity
- Someone states the actual point — and it lands because the surrounding thirty seconds were ridiculous
What This Changes
Slate rebalance
The library was roughly 80% educational. Research says comedy carries growth and education carries credibility. Target is closer to 50% comedy-led, 30% educational, 20% product.
Comedy Engine added
A new comedy-first pack built on the brand name as a joke structure. See The Comedy Engine.
Two new hook families
Outcome-led (
OL) and pattern-interrupt (PI) added to the library and worked into the 15s tests.Hard compliance rules
AIGC labeling and the cannabis content lane are now in the Production Spec checklist, not just implied.
What We Got Right
Worth recording, because it means the existing library does not need rebuilding:- The 1.5-second rule matches the platform’s actual decision point.
- Completion rate over views matches how distribution is actually weighted.
- The 15-second tier sits inside the 9-15s retention sweet spot.
- Character consistency discipline turns out to be worth 30-45% of reach.
- Personified terpenes is an independently validated cannabis-comedy format.
- No consumption on camera was the correct call, for a bigger reason than we knew.
